Diamond Jubilee? Let’s do lunch….

The Queen’s Diamond Jubilee will be celebrated with a nationwide Sunday lunch on 3rd June 2012.  Buckingham Palace is to launch the ‘Big Jubilee Lunch’, encouraging people across the country to invite their neighbours to share a meal with them.

The Palace is planning the lunchtime celebration with The Eden Project, the environmental and educational charity, which launched the ‘Big Lunch’ initiative in 2009 to promote neighbourliness and greater social interaction within communities .  So far, the annual ‘Big Lunch’ has attracted over a million participants.  In the sunny Silver Jubilee summer of 1977, over 10 million people came out to celebrate with a street party, so it’s hoped that a large number of people will take part in The Big Lunch for the first time in 2012 – whether it be a street party, a get-together in a hall – or just in your own dining room or back garden!

Of the participants who took part last year, 95 per cent said that they felt closer to their neighbours and 85 per cent said that they felt it brought different generations together.

So what are you waiting for – dust off the bunting and start planning your ‘Big Jubilee Lunch’ now!  The Big Lunch website is packed with information to help you start planning your event (www.thebiglunch.com) or if you have any questions or queries you can get in touch via info@thebiglunch.com or call 0845 850 8181 to speak to one of the team.
