Here’s a rundown of what’s happening during the Diamond Jubilee Weekend (2nd-5th June 2012):-
Saturday 2nd June
The Queen attends the Epsom Derby
Details are still to be announced, but expect bands, salutes and possibly an equine guard of honour to mark the occasion.
Sunday 3rd June
HM The Queen and HRH Prince Philip will lead a colourful flotilla of up to 1,000 craft up the Thames, London’s historic waterway. The armed forces, fire, police and rescue service will all be present, together with 30,000 spectators in passenger boats, plus Thames sailing boats, music barges, pyrotechnic barges, and historic boats.
People across the nation will be encouraged to share a “Jubilee” Sunday lunch with family, friends and neighbours – your chance to get the bunting out and throw a street party!
Monday 4th of June
The BBC Diamond Jubilee Concert
This televised concert will be held in the grounds of Buckingham Palace. The line up is yet to be decided, but you can bank on it being a star-studded event, with the best of British and Commonwealth musicians – rock, pop and classical. Tickets will be allocated by ballot later this year.
The Queen will light the first in a network of 2,012 beacons that will blaze across the UK and Commonwealth.
